Thanks. This was actually my first time out shooting with the Nikon 300 f/4. I had a few stinkers but this one turned out alright.

You have an amazing collection of images and aircraft, I can only envy you, we do not have much left flying here in SA........................................

I would say "Come on over..." but our Government has made travel and visiting here such a pain in the ass, I wouldn't feel good about it.

Thanks for your kind words though, Enjoy SA. I can only hope to visit some day.

Thank you for your response,

We obviously do not have a patch on the USAF, being a 3rd world country, but there are neverless some interesting old birds flying around.

The problem is obviously budget related, we only have one or two military airshows a year and you see the same few aircraft over and over.

In 1995 and then again in 2000 there were quite a contingent of international planes demonstrating at Aerospace Africa, F15, F16, B1 Bone, U2 (NASA), Red Arrows, Tornados, Grippen, Sukhoi 27 and Mig 29 to name the key ones.

Unfortunately it was still the days of film for me which now in hindsight was a major limiting factor. With digital you are not restricted to 5 or 10 spools because of budget constraints, you can shoot and you have to take a lot in this kind of work.

As you can gather I am very passionate about aircraft and would give my left ball to be able to get close to and photograph the great planes which you see often.

I think I will post some of my aircraft images on Airliners.net sometime, I am trying to only post the more "artistic" images here. Will send you a link when I do, but I must caution, my stuff is not that hot. Our crowd lines are always far away from the runway, our light can be very harsh and then my tele lens is limited to 420mm effective (with 1.4 converter) only.

Excuses, excuses..................................

Will stay in touch,

ET

All of these images were shot with a 300mm lens, which is around 450mm effective on my Nikon D70.

Please send the link when you get your shots online. I would love to have a look.
